Its summer in the Canadian Cordillera and the Giraffe is eager to get in the mountains

ree

a road trip is planned, the van is packed and adventure awaits!

ree

ACT I - Lake Louise & Grand Sentinel

The Giraffe had her eyes set on climbing the Grand Sentinel above Lake Louise for some time... perfect weather and a general lack of crowds made for perfect conditions for a waltz with the pinnacle time forgot. The Grand Sentinel...

ree

Gearing up at the Moraine Lake parking lot

ree

The climb is roughly a two hour approach from the parking lot - mostly hiking up to sentinel pass

ree

Hiking out of the 'valley of ten peaks'

ree

At the pass

ree

The trail fades away to snow and scree...

ree

Alien landscapes are crossed

ree

Scrambling to the base

ree

Looking up at route ahead

ree

On belay!

ree

Almost there...

ree

At the top!

ree

and after a short period of celebration its time to head down - who knows when this thing is going to fall over!

ree

Rapping

ree

On the walk out Eva found a rock...

ree

...as did Brian!

ree

Back at Moraine Lake - tourists like to come here because it is pretty

ree

Next day was spent climbing at Lake Louise - which requires an obligatory photo every time you pass

ree
ree

Soaking up the sun and getting ready to climb

ree

Looking back at the lake...

ree

A good couple of days is capped off by the discovery of wild strawberries

ree

ACT II - Mount Tupper

Next stop is Glacier National Park (the Canadian one) to camp at Hermit meadows and climb mount Tupper (seen behind van).

ree

A stream provides a pre-adventure bath

ree

Clean! Time to pack up

ree

and hike up! Good thing we got some practice

ree

Look, there is Mt Tupper!

ree

Lets keep hiking up

ree

and up

ree

Finally Hermit Meadows!

ree

Taking in the views

ree

Camp

ree

Pooh with a view

ree

After a good night sleep. Next morning packed and ready to climb

ree

Lets go!

ree

we're off

ree

More hiking awaits

ree

over snow...

ree

rocks...

ree

up...

ree

...up...

ree

...and up, we go

ree

Finally a ridge comes into view

ree

Shouldn't be too much further, should it?

ree

Looking at path ahead

ree

Maybe its time to start to rack up

ree

Hiking or climbing?

ree

Climbing...

ree

Headwall push

ree

At the top!

ree

View the other way

ree

Berg Heil!

ree

and time to head down

ree

which way do we go?

ree

Down this way!

ree

Brian happy to be off the ridge

ree

A few streams to cross

ree

Not just one

ree

A long days work and we are rewarded with a swim!

ree

Happy to be going in the water not jumping over the water

ree

ACT III - Squamish

After a week in the high mountains its time to head down to the coast for some casual granite crack climbing at the legendary town of Squamish. Relaxed morning...

ree

Getting ready to climb cracks!

ree

and more cracks

ree

up she goes

ree

Squamish is known for its forests of trees

ree

climbing next to a waterfall

ree

more climbing cracks

ree

Brian wondering what to climb next...

ree

properly dressed for the occasion

ree

up the crack he goes

ree

what do you know another crack!

ree

That said all good things must come to an end and its time to head home - sunset at campsite on drive home

ree

Sadly fires have set in and much of the rockies are now covered in smoke

ree

good thing the Giraffe can find safety on Evas head

ree

ACT IV - Food

Did I mention wild strawberries!

ree

Well there was also blueberry picking

ree
ree

wild blackberries

ree

Fresh Peaches

ree

Famous BC cherries

ree

corn from roadside stand

ree

Blueberry pie

ree

Blueberry ice cream

ree

Yummy dinners

ree

and best of all a fresh garden to come home to!

ree

Garden salad

ree

Rasberries too!

ree

Thats all for now but always getting ready for our next adventure
