Today was spent at HomeDepot, more cleaning and prepping insulation for installation.

The floor required a second pass of cleaning to get all the residual goo, glue and grease off... This time I tried a different product which did a good job at attacking the hard spots that I couldn't get yesterday.

Next in the project was creating a template for the floor. The plan for the floor is to have a base layer of Minicelli foam, 1/2" XPS foam, plywood, and topped with laminate flooring. Before the floor goes in I will add sound deadening 80 mil Kilmat. The plan is to install the kilt tomorrow. In preparation for the rest of the instal I created a template of the floor, wheel wells, sliding door step, etc...,, out of a large roll of paper. I was then able to transfer that template onto the XPS foam and make some final adjustments to fit.
Making template

Transferring template to XPS foam - note size of van footprint compared to my living room - I don't think I can take my dining room table with me :-)

XPS foam fitted in van - the advantage of doing this is the XPS foam has the same dimensions as plywood so I can use the XPS foam as a direct template for the plywood sheets that will go on top.

The plan for tomorrow is painting exposed metal, installing the Kilmat sound insulation, and cutting plywood to fit for floor. The Minicell foam is on order and is supposed to arrive on Wednesday so if all goes according to plan the floor should be installed by Thursday and I will finish insulating the van on Friday - yeah!
